So many of us were taught to escape what we feel. We learned to numb it with food, alcohol, drugs, shopping, sex, work, scrolling, busyness, or perfectionism. We learned to outrun our pain because we didn’t feel safe to be with it.
But the truth is: healing doesn’t happen by running away. Healing happens by feeling.
It happens in the quiet moments when you allow yourself to breathe into the heaviness in your chest. It happens when you let your tears fall without apologizing. It happens when you place your hand on your heart and say, “I see you. I’m here.”
When you stay with your pain not when you run away from it.
Sitting with it doesn’t mean you’re weak or stuck. It means you are brave enough to turn toward what hurts so it can move, soften, and release. It means you are willing to feel what’s true so you can finally meet yourself with compassion.
Sometimes, the hardest thing is to be with what is. To not judge it, to not force it away, to not label it as wrong. Just to let it be.
Because when you sit with your pain, your loneliness, your grief, your longing, your fear, you are not feeding it, you are freeing it. You are telling your body and your heart: “You don’t have to carry this alone anymore.”
When we allow ourselves to sit with what we feel, we break old patterns of self-abandonment. We learn that our emotions are not enemies to be fought, but messengers to be listened to. We learn that we don’t have to shame ourselves for feeling. We learn that softness is not weakness, and slowness is not failure.
Healing often begins when we stop resisting our humanity.
If no one ever told you this: it’s okay to slow down. It’s okay to feel what you feel. You don’t need to fix yourself to be worthy of love.
Sit with it. Stay. Let it teach you. Let it pass through you. You are safe to feel.
Reflection:
What feelings have you been trying to avoid or numb? What would it look like to sit with them, even for a moment, and offer yourself gentle presence instead of judgment?
With presence and care,🤍
