Yesterday I went to a dancing class. More like a gathering of people who love to dance and share this passion with others. Beautiful people, and energy.Ā
I bought some nice high-heels dancing shoes (guiltyš¤Ŗā¦the dance was just an excuse, anyway I donāt want to write about the shoes, even though I might have a problem).Ā
I want to write about dancing.
In one of my trainings as a therapist we learned to use dance as a way of healing. I cannot emphasize enough how important is the body in emotional healing.Ā
Trauma lives in the body, and so does freedom.
Being in touch with your body, feeling it, expressing your feelings through body movements are extremely valuable.
I love to dance. I donāt necessarily like a formal style of dance but more feeling the music, listening to my body, what I feel in the moment and moving intuitively with the intention to connect and to let the energy to move through me.Ā
It works magic when I am sad, depleted, when I donāt know what I feel but I know itās something there, when I wanna let my body tell me how I can help relax the tension.Ā
I dance when I am angry and the movements become the way my fire goes out.Ā
I dance when I am anxious and I can stay still, I dance when I am tired or energized.Ā
I dance differently every time.Ā
Sometimes itās soft, or sensual, putting me in touch with my feminine energy, other times is tumultuous and helps me connect with my inner fire.
Dance itās just the way I connect with my body and I give it a way to express.Ā
The music becomes the medicine. My body becomes the healer.
Time stops. There are no thoughts. I am free. I feel like the wind, or I feel like a flowing water that shapes a way out and carry with it all that I donāt need and in the process it gives me joy.
If I would give an advice for people who are in the beginning stage of their healing journey and want to find a way to connect to their bodies, I will tell them⦠start to dance!
Doesnāt have to be a class, a specific place, or music, a style, or a partner with you.
Start with dancing alone, for you, free, intuitively like no one is watching you.Ā
Dance just for you. Listen to your body. Feel the energy moving. Let your body guide you.Ā
Be there. Present. Just you, a music that inspires you and let the body move by itself.
Just surrender.Ā
Let go of shame, fear, control.Ā
Just be. You.Ā
Your body.Ā
The rhythm.
And be prepared for a magical moment!
Your body remembers its rhythm and in the movement will tell you a story.Ā
Your story!
So much healing begins not with words, but with rhythm.
Dance might not fix everything.
But it can open the door.
To feeling.
To freedom.
To you.
And thatās where magic begins.
